Do I still need to apply to housing if I’m accepted into the ELC?

Yes, regardless of your choice in housing you will need to apply for housing and adhere to all requirements for on-campus housing including deposits and deadlines.

Do I have to live on-campus or only in C.F. Lynch?

No, you may choose to live wherever you like.

Is there an additional charge to join the ELC or participate in activities?

There are no additional charges for the ELC, but you will still need to pay for university housing and tuition.

What if I want to room with someone who does not want to participate in the ELC?

Unfortunately, we cannot place non-members of the ELC in Lynch; however, you may still be an ELC member and live wherever you would like.

How do I apply for the ELC?

Go to for an application form. We are currently accepting applications for incoming freshmen students for this Fall.

What type of activities do members get to attend?

In the past, ELC members have attended: Toni Morrison's lecture at the Blumenthal, the opera “Margaret Garner, readings at the ArtBar, Novello Literary Festival, and many other cultural events throughout Charlotte. We also strongly encourage students to suggest activities that would interest them.

I don't have a car. How will I attend the functions off campus?

The ELC will provide transportation via a bus charter to all events off campus. Either a peer mentor or member of the English faculty will accompany the participants to all events.
