The English Department is happy to announce that Professor Bryn Chancellor has been selected as the inaugural Fiction Writer in Residence for Charlotte Lit’s new Writers in Residence program. Launching in the fall of 2025-26 with support from the Cowan Slavin Foundation, the program will feature three residents working one-on-one with writers in the community to help them advance their craft.

Professor Chancellor is the author of the novel Sycamore, which was named as a Southwest Book of the Year and an Amazon Editors’ Best Book of 2017. She also wrote the story collection When Are You Coming Home?, which won the Prairie Schooner Book Prize. Her work has been widely published in numerous literary journals.

She will be joined in this residency by two other distinguished writers:

Patrice Gopo (Creative Nonfiction): Author of the award-winning essay collections Autumn Song and All the Colors We Will See.

Junious “Jay” Ward (Poetry): Charlotte’s inaugural poet laureate, a National Poetry Slam champion, and an Individual World Poetry Slam champion.

Congratulations to Professor Chancellor on this well-deserved honor!
